1. In the episode, everyone has a rating based off of how other people rate you. Lacy is one of the many people who are caught up in this rating system. After being asked to be the maid of honour for her very high rated friend. Lacy attempts to prove herself buy trying to get a higher rating then 4.2. However, she struggles hard with this and ends up having her rating way lower. Although this disappointsherself, she finally understand the problems in the rating system.
2. Obsessive – all she cares about is getting a higher rating, although this does change it takes a while to happen. Self-conscious – she is constantly trying to prove herself to people who are rated higher than her. Irresponsible – she doesn’t realize the people she’s hurting ( her brother ) to get a higher rating
3. Lacie is a dynamic character because at the start of the episode all she cares about is the rating system. However, you see her change as she talks to people who aren’t worried about the rating system.

1. Truman Burbank is an average man. However, he doesn’t know he has been the star of a television show since he was first born. Everyone around him including his family and friends are actors in the television show that is his life. Now that Truman is older, he begins to pay more attention to little details around him and notices odd and repetitive things happening. Truman is determined to find out the truth of what is really going on. He keeps digging, and eventually Truman tries to escape the town by sailing away. Truman said until he hits a wall in the ocean. He then finds and door and has a conversation with Christof (the producer of the Truman Show ). Truman then decides to leave the show and finally try to have a life of his own.
2. The main conflict in the Truman Show is character vs. society ( Truman vs society). In the movie, Truman has to battle everyone who is helping keep him in the show. Truman is fighting against society to find out the truth and escape. The climax is when Truman walks out the studio after talking to Christof. This is the climax because this is when Truman beats the societal pressure.
3. The story takes place in a large television set called Seahaven, and based off the technology and clothing I assume the time is along late 1900s. The mood in the movie is suspenseful because we are watching Truman discover the truth about his life. Another example of the mood is unsettling to know that everyone around Truman is fake.

“There was nothing to make him last a long time”.

In the novel, All the Bright Places, by Jennifer Niven, the story follows characters who both struggle with their own inner demons. A very significant quote reads, “There was nothing to make him last a long time”. Although this quote may seem vague out of context, it expresses the desperation seen in many people with mental illness. This quote is presented towards the end of the story while the main character, Theodore Finch, chooses to end his life, while his loved one, Violet Markey, is left in devastation. Prior to committing suicide, Finch leaves this sentence written on a post-it-note for Violet to find an attempt to express that his final action was inevitable. Earlier on, Finch shares a story of a cardinal that continuously flies into his window, and, while he tried to help it, it eventually died from flying into that same window. Finch blames himself for not being able to save the cardinal but later comes to realize that he could not have prevented it; ultimately the bird wished to die. There is a clear use of symbolism within this quote along with his story of the cardinal. Given that Finch is not directly talking about himself when he writes this, the audience can make the assumption that both him and the bird represent the one nobody could save. The same way Finch could not save the bird, Finch expresses that Violet could not have saved him. In this quote, Finch acknowledges that his suicide will affect the one he loves the most, Violet, showing that he knows suicide is a selfish action while also stressing that suicide is an act of extreme desperation. This quote summarizes a major theme in the story, being that suicide is just as much a selfish act as it is one of desperation. Alarmingly, this story is not one deemed as far-fetched but rather an accurate representation of how many people suffering from mental illnesses may feel. This quote shows the hopelessness Finch carries, while simultaneously inferring the upcoming guilt Violet will have, in hopes of diminishing her feelings of guilt, Finch leaves it knowing she will find it. All in all, Niven depicts the brutal truth behind suicide and mental health through her use of symbolism.

“It’s my experience that people are a lot more sympathetic if they can see you hurting…I wish for measles or smallpox or some easily understood disease just to make it easier on me and also on them” -Finch

Finch is diagnosed by his school counsellor as having Bipolar disorder, however he does not want to be labelled and known as crazy so rather than dealing with his mental health as people deal with physical health, for example seeing a doctor and addressing the problem, he feels forced to suppress his emotions and suffer in silence. Finch also explains how you cannot see his disorder the way you are able to see a physical disability. With that being said, he worries that people won’t understand, accept, or even believe the struggle he is going through. I think this is a very important quote because it proves why those struggling with mental disorders may not share their own hardships with others. Finch also adds that measles or smallpox is easily understood but mental health disorders are not as understood. I believe many people who are victims of mental health disorders can relate to this quote since society treats mental and physical wellness differently. It is important to stop encouraging the stigma around mental illnesses in order to create an environment supportive of those suffering from these issues.

“But I haven’ touched the sight since Eleanor died, because what would be the point?”(pg.51)

Violet said this quote while talking about the death of her sister and their shared website. She explains how she hasn’t touched the website because it seems pointless without her sister. I picked this quote because I have a sister how I am very close with. I could only imagine the pain Violet felt when she lost her sister. Even though, she has many people telling her to start posting on the website she refuses as it wouldn’t be the same without her sister. I think I could relate to this quote because if my sister passed away I would feel empty doing things without her. Violet also suffers from survivals guilt, she works on facing this problem however, knows that using the website without her sister isn’t right. In the book, Violet faces many problems and has to fight her inner and outer demons. I pitty Violet because the first person I go to for help is my sister. I also admire her strength and courage to try to find reasons to live without her sister.

“Is today a good day to die?”(pg.2)

This quote started off the book, and gave us our first incite on what Theodore Finch is like. This quote caught my attention because Finch explains how he asks himself this question multiple times in a day. Theodore Finch, is a suicidal teenager who even though thinks about his death constantly in a day is also looking for a reason to live. I think this is a very important quote because it shows how hopeless he seems to be. this quote is followed by Finch on top of his school attempting to commit suicide. That is, until he meets Violet Markey who was planning to do the same. And in Violet, he finds his reason the live. I love this quote because it shows how you can be thinking one thing, but then have your mind changed in the blink of an eye. Theodore is certainly a teenager suffering from mental illness, however throughout the book you see hope and strength grow in him. This quote explains how death and suicide is a constant thought to Finch. A saddening quote that Jennifer Niven used to open to book but also a powerful one.

   Definition of “Stupefying”-astonishing and shocking. Example in sentence-The amount of money raised from the event is stupefying.
5. ” All scuffed, worn out leather, like something Keith Richards might have worn way, way back in the day” Definition of the work “Scuffed”- scrape or brush the surface of (a shoe or other object) against something. Example in a sentence- I scuffed the heal of my shoe on the table.
6. ” It’s a two-story brick colonial with shrubs crowding under the windows, black shutters, and a red door” (pg. 90) Definition of ” Colonial”-a house built in colonial style Example in a sentence-The colonial history of the building stayed well preserved beside the modern changes.

Synopsis: All the Bright Places follows 2 characters, Theodore Finch & Violet Markey. Violet and Finch meet on top of a roof where the two both contemplate jumping but they don’t choose to, almost as though they have saved one another. They team up to do a project, one in which involves seeing different places.The story follows them and mainly his battles with mental illnesses as well as her own inner demons. Theodore and Violet help each other through the worst times, and find strength in one and another. Quickly, Theodore and Violet fall for each other and can truly be themselves. They find each other when they need each other the most.

After visiting the what does google know about you website I was intrigued at just how much google knows about me. I visited the website that showed my google activity and noticed that it had all of my conversations with my google home. After seeing all of my conversations, I was surprised to know that all of the conversations were saved. This is when I realized, google can see the times I go to sleep, the music I listen to, and many more little details. I was astonished to find out my conversations were saved. Although I don’t have anything to hide it is still unsettling to know that google saves all my history.
